Seiko set the watch world ablaze when it launched its SSK line of affordable GMT watches in their classic SKX case architecture in 2022. Following this smashing success, they’ve added the complication to a whole suite of watches and are back with the fan-favorite complication in a beloved reference — the venerable Seiko 5 Sports Field.
The 5 Sports Field GMT features nearly identical case dimensions to its time-only counterpart, featuring a perfectly sized 39.4mm steel case with 100m of water resistance. The biggest change comes from the addition of Seiko’s economical “caller”-style GMT movement, adding an independent 24-hour hand with a bright red accent. The 5 Sports GMT features a fixed color-matched 24-hour bezel and an additional 24-hour track on the dial filled with Seiko’s iconic LumiBrite compound. The Field GMT is available in both stainless steel and black-coated variants, the former featuring a matching five-link stainless steel bracelet and the latter on a matching black leather pull-through strap.
Powering the Seiko 5 Sports Field is the Seiko 4R34, a Japanese-made automatic movement. It features 24 jewels, hacking, hand winding, independent 24-hour hand GMT and date complications, a frequency of 21,600 beats per hour, and a power reserve of at least 41 hours.
